Become the Best Version of You
We so often fall short of our own standards, being unproductive or lazy. Squandering time like this is frustrating in the face of our goals and aspirations. What’s worse, our minds are forever being pulled away from the present moment. Below are some tips to aid in the pursuit of our best self.
Tip 1: Write down what the best version of you does and doesn’t do
Describe a day in the life of the best version of yourself: He wakes up at 7 a.m. without snoozing his alarm. After a healthy breakfast, he goes to the gym and does six exercises, four sets of each exercise… you get the point. A bullet point list of do’s and don’t also suffices. Then, decide what are the easy, short-term wins you could implement into your life today. Do you have to spend 20 minutes on Instagram as soon as you wake? Additionally, make a plan to achieve the longer-term goals.
Tip 2: Meditate
All of us are constantly lost in thought without realising. Thoughts randomly arise into our field of consciousness and dictate our moods and behaviour. Many of these thoughts are unhelpful, causing distress and angst.
Meditation teaches not to become captured by our next thought. Simply notice it, as you would a sound, and return to what you were doing.
As a society, we are losing our ability to focus on anything. How often are you able to truly focus on a task for an hour without checking your phone? A meditation practice can minimise our susceptibility to distractions.
Tip 3: Set timers
A set period of work can drive productivity as an end time is known. Consider the Pomodoro Technique—a time management method based on working for 25 minutes followed by a five-minute break.
Tip 4: Remind yourself that you are capable of being the best version of you
Naturally, the only person who can become the best version of yourself is you. Everyone has experienced highly productive days. We all have those tools available within us. Of course, some days are better than others. However, no state of mind should necessitate endlessly scrolling on reels.
Adopt these tips and become the person you know you should be. Or rather, become the person you know that you are.
